Aversion: Review & Giveaway

41o5z7kXQHL._SX326_BO1,204,203,200_

Take a moment, think back to every reckless decision you’ve ever made. Sneaking out late after your parents grounded you, ditching class to hang out with friends or getting fake ids to get into a popular club. Now think about every sensible decision you’ve ever made, the split decisions we make and in hindsight we are grateful to have averted disaster. Are we really in control of our actions?

Gemma Green is not your everyday loner at high school, she is a part of an ancient secret society called Averters. Averters are our mortal guardians and their sole purpose in life is to keep us from making reckless decisions that would yield lifelong consequences. Gemma has trained all her life to be a competent Averter. As the only female of her kind, she must work twice as hard and trust no one. After her first Aversion leaves traces of an error, she slowly understands all that she is and the many secrets of the Averter society. Russ is a handsome, popular athlete at school and Gemma’s new-found temptation. Gemma feels a strange connection with Russ, one she doesn’t intend to explore. Gemma soon learns you can’t out run fate and even an Averter can be surprised.

Aversion is the first book in the mentalist series by author Kenechi Ugodu. Aversion is an action-packed young adult fantasy romance; readers are transported in the mind of Gemma Green the only female Averter of her kind. If you think puberty was scary, try adding the complications supernatural changes. The chemistry between the main characters Russ and Gemma is  reminiscent of  first love. It shows love at its purest and most innocent form. Aversion tackles themes like self-discovery, growing up and doing the right thing. Each character was carefully crafted and the small town Sandes became a real place.

Sandes is a small town where most of the story takes place. Kenechi described this quiet town appealing to the reader’s five senses. I can smell the stench of an old cafe and I can describe the feeling of getting an ice-cream sundae at a popular hangout.

If you are a paranormal fantasy junkie and you’re looking for a unique fix look no further. Aversion is a beautifully written story with lessons applicable to real life. Come join Gemma and Russ on their many adventures. Welcome to the real world where Averters are the only one saving us from a curse and a blessing, free will.

Reborn: Princess of the blood Review & Giveaway

Reborn

Marie Josette d’Orgemont cousin of Louis XVI was erased from history and forced to live in the shadows. One tragic night robbed her of her life, her loved ones and now she is a prisoner to the night. Family is the only important thing to her, after living for centuries as vampire the only thing she cares about is preserving her human blood line and protecting her last human relative Abigail.

Odin Ulfsson is next in line to be Alpha of his pack. Being immortal and without love has made him restless . He resists his father’s orders to marry a mate of his choosing. When rogues threaten to reveal their existence, he runs into a sexy vampire who he can’t resist. Marie haven’t felt an intense attraction to anyone other than her late human husband; Odin unleashes a desire in her and she can’t seem to ignore it. Marie must stay focused to protect Abigail but a certain sexy wolf won’t let her out of his grasp.

Reborn the first book in the “Princess of The Blood” series is an addictive paranormal romance with a special helping of history. Reborn holds your attention and doesn’t let go until the end. Marie is a well-developed and relatable character that mesmerize, not only the wolf Odin but the reader as well. This is a well-researched book that touches on old traditions and breath-taking imagery of France and the paranormal world nestled in the states.

A love story within a love story is the only words to describe Reborn, the supporting characters Abigail and Egon adds color and depth to an amazing love story. A perfect exploration of an immortal in a modern world, I believed in these characters and I fell in love with them. The only downside of reading this book is it didn’t quench my thirst, it left me desperate and wanting more. Reborn is a beautifully told paranormal love story with a cliffhanger. I look forward to following the story; after reading this story the characters have become a permanent fixture in my life and I must see where life takes them.

Thank you, Ultimate Fantasy Books, for giving me the opportunity to read this wonderful book.

the light in the sound

The light in the sound is a beautifully written laugh out loud, honest story of a woman named Rachel Richardson who suffers from personal traumas and is trying to find love in a world where sex and drugs are easier to get than true love. I am a hopeless romantic always searching for a good love story and what I found here after reading this book is a true gem. The light in the sound by Vanessa Gonzales is not a love story but a story about life. I found a hero in Rachel and  despite her jaded past she moved about life unapologetically. The setting is Seattle, Washington; the description of the surroundings and the climate was so delicately and beautifully applied making the story credible. As a reader when I take a writer’s hand and they lead me into their world, I like to become engrossed in the story in a personal way staying at each character’s most vulnerable time and leaving at the end. In every good story there is a change in the main character and I sense Rachel has finally found peace within herself or found a sense of peace in the chaos of her life.

The characters were colorful, vibrant and sometimes weird but they reeked of normalcy. There are far too many books with characters that can’t appeal to normal people, whose life is imperfect but who have no choice but to use the cards they are dealt. Each character was expertly woven into the story showing Mrs. Gonzales commitment to quality in the craft of writing. The only downside of the book was I needed more, I fell in love with Rachel and I wanted her to succeed and find happiness. I enjoyed this book so much that I am giving 4 lucky readers the opportunity to read this wonderful story. The book is first come first served, kindle edition.

leslie-north

Ahmed Al-Qasimi also known as the Playboy Sheikh seeks to live his life to the fullest. Being the youngest son of the Sultan of Sharjah comes with its special kind of hell. Tired of his brothers and father’s lectures he takes special interest in a caterer Melanie Martin. Melanie is a hardworking chef with her own catering company, she never had to depend on anyone but herself. When the sexy Sheikh Ahmed unleashes his charm she melts and realizes she doesn’t want to turn down his advances. Known for her all work no play demeanor this sexy brunette finally let’s her hair down and shows this sexy royal a side a New York he’ll never forget. Sultan Mohammed Al-Qasimi has had enough of his son’s reckless behavior bringing dishonor to their family name. He arranges a marriage for his youngest son with a woman he sees as the perfect wife to tame is irresponsible son. Ahmed is faced with a tough decision, he must choose between his duty as the Sultan’s son or true love. Can these two star-crossed lovers find true love no matter the obstacles in their way or will duty and life little surprises get in the way?

The Sheikh’s Accidental heir is the second book in the Sharjah series and it can be read as a standalone. This is a happily ever after love story with no cliffhangers. This book shows the allure and the beauty of New York City and it further delves into Arabian culture and customs. The characters were imperfect and relatable. Melanie Martin is an independent woman from a free world and it was refreshing to see her navigate a culture where women don’t have the same rights as she does in her home land. Real fears present themselves but the story shows me why I love romance so much; love really conquers all.

The only growth areas in this book was I would have loved to see more of Sharjah the place. She showed him her home (NYC) it would have been nice to see Ahmed in his own land showing her the splendor of a country with such a rich culture. I enjoyed reading this book and as a follower of the series, Sharjah became a real place for me. The Sheikh’s Accidental heir is a story about love, family and making tough decisions.

Review: Pushing her limits

Pushing Her Limits (Masters of Adrenaline, #3)Pushing Her Limits by Sparrow Beckett

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Pushing her limits is a sexy twist on Cops and Robbers, where the cop fall in love with the robber after lust-filled trysts. Altas Larson is a highly intelligent computer whiz and a master car thief. He was raised to lie, cheat and steal. He’s also from a family of master thieves who steal from the rich. Their operation is a highly-sophisticated approach to car stealing. Mila Palmer is a female detective with a lot to prove, being the daughter of a disgraced officer and being a woman in an old boy’s club has her working harder than ever. When she meets Altas her perception of right and wrong shifts as she is sucked in his world of BDSM, she uncovers truths about herself while trying to stay on the right side of the law. Altas starts off as an assignment and quickly the clearly drawn lines start to blur.
Pushing her limits is an action-packed erotic romance, it is a great read.

The authors successfully craft complex characters that made me the reader question my own sense of morality. It is third book in the Masters of Adrenaline series and it can be read as a standalone. Pushing her limits gave you a sneak peek into the lives of past characters which added value and credibility to the story. The book pushed me into their world and never let me out until the story was over. This is not for the faint of heart, it is an erotic romance pushing the boundaries of what is usually acceptable in regular relationships. The setting is Las Vegas hot sun, desert, luxury cars, mansions and a fast-paced way of life.

Sandra Owens: Jack of hearts

jack-of-hearts

What does it take to take down a notorious drug lord? One sexy and bad-ass undercover FBI agent and his team which consists of his brothers. There is only one problem and it is in the form of a beautiful red-head who happens to be the cousin of the man he must take down. Alex Gentry co-owns a biker bar with his brothers which also happens to be the perfect cover for all their operations. These FBI siblings tries to keep their baby brother in line after her falls for Madison Parker, the niece of a powerful and notorious drug lord.

The most important things to Madison is the business that she and her best friend Lauren opens and her mother. Madison’s priorities start to shift after she meets a mysterious, sexy dark-haired acquaintance of her cousin. All she wants is to be as far as possible from her mother’s family but they find a way of pulling her back.

Jack of hearts is a fast-paced, jaw dropping contemporary romance where Agent Alex Gentry falls for the niece of the man he was ordered to take down. Sandra Owens displays mastery in creating characters in this novel. Each character was complex and through reading you can feel the connect of each relationship, when I read romance I love a realistic progression of romance. Each scene served to strengthen the credibility of each character and the depth of their relationship, it was realistic and smooth in pacing.

Jack of hearts gave you a small snippet into the lives of the supporting characters, breathing life into the possibility of another great story to read. An action packed forbidden love story, with swoon worthy love scenes and action-filled scenes with the right amount of suspense.

As a regular reader of Sandra Owens, she does not disappoint in this new series. The new plot was refreshing and her characters was diverse. I love stories that transport me into the world created by the author and hold me there until the very end and Jack of Hearts do that elegantly.

The only growth area for this book is introducing new relationships between supporting characters did not flow as smoothly. The book ends with the possibilities of a relationship with the other Gentry brothers.

I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review from NetGalley.

Review: A Promise of Fire

I came across A promise of Fire in my Amazon recommendations for books I would like based on my purchase history. I was not disappointed, this is a great read and I have become an instant fan. I love fantasy novels that feed the imagination and clearly depicts the human nature; showcasing our ability to love and to fight for what we believe in.

A Promise of Fire by Amanda Bouchet

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

A Promise of Fire is an epic magical adventure, Catalia “Cat” Fisa has mastered the art of blending in.She also has powerful magic that she doesn’t know the full extent of; Cat hides from the world afraid to be used as a puppet while nursing wounds from her tortured past. Cat is a powerful Kingmaker hiding from her destiny and her psychotic mother who would stop at nothing to have her in her grips.

Griffin is a mysterious warrior trying to bring peace to his newly conquered Territory; when his eyes first land on Cat he knew they were meant to be and from that day on their fates would be forever entwined. Griffin helps Cat confront her fears and he shows her that together they would do the impossible.

This is a story of fate and believing in yourself. The pace of A Promise of Fire is fast paced, Ms Bouchet phenomenal story building skills is beautifully showcased in this page turning adventure. A Promise of Fire introduces new creatures and realms as well as giving life to well-known Greek gods like Zeus, Poseidon, Artemis etc.

The description of the realms appealed to all of my senses, I was in Sinta (one of the realms) when I read this book. Each scene drives the reader deeper in to the story, making close friends and becoming family with each character. This is a hold on to your seat, jaw dropping, in your face magical adventure. I recommend this book to fantasy lovers everywhere. A promise of Fire combines romance and fantasy in a way I haven’t seen in a while. It is refreshing, and a hard book to put down. I recommend reading A promise of fire as soon as you can because the adventure continues with Breath of Fire set to be released on January 3rd, 2017.

LaFifeReview:Nobody’s Goddess

This book reminds me why I love romance, I think romance writers today gets lost in lust and power. This book reminds me that love exists and it doesn’t always show with kisses and intimate gestures. Love is in forgiveness, in knowing that to hurt the one you love would be to hurt yourself.

20561819

This book is set in a town where men and boys wear masks to protect them from the eyes of women that don’t love them. A curse was placed on every man to love one woman and to treat her as his one and only goddess. Only when her love is returned would he be free to walk around unmasked.

Amy McNulty’s Nobody’s Goddess held me captive until the very last page. The author’s world building techniques were brilliantly showcased in every chapter. Nobody’s Goddess showed a world where neither man and woman could live peacefully without having authority imposed on the other. This book shows in a fantastical way the struggles men and women face today especially when dealing with matters of love and intimacy.

I was confused, angry and sad and for a book to evoke those emotions from me and still kept me hostage I was truly in awe. The reader was not given the entire story in the beginning. The magical breadcrumbs that were placed on the page to help guide the reader to the essence and the meaning of the story was masterful and it shows a great writer who pays attention to craft without jeopardizing creativity.

Every scene had meaning and I felt as if the world was real to me, the relationships between each character was real to me. I felt her anger, her indifference towards her obligation as a goddess to receive her man. I also felt her love, her love for her best friend and for her mother. This book was thought-provoking, fast paced, bold and interesting. If you appreciate fantasy and real love, this book is everything you have been waiting for.

Nobody’s Goddess can be purchased in the links below. If you are a subscriber of Kindle Unlimited you can read this book for free.

This review based on my honest opinion after reading the book. I received a free copy from NetGalley and I was not obligated to give a review.

Review: The Sculptor

images

A friend gave me a copy of this book to read and I knew right away that it would be my new beginning on this site. This is the first graphic novel that I’ve read and if all graphic novels are like this I would read them all.

The Sculptor is the story of David Smith young sculptor who entered a deal with death to bring his art to life, the only catch is he will only have 200 days to live. Readers get an intimate glimpse into David’s life, his great and not so great experiences and we see how it shapes him as a person.

When I opened this book, I found it hard to put it down. Even though it started with few words on the page the pictures were powerful and it told the beginning of the story just as effectively as words on a page would. The character development was expertly showcased, Mr Mc Cloud managed to create more than one complex character without taking the focus away from the plot.

The Sculptor is a real story about a young man who felt he had nothing more to offer the world, he felt alone and he was bitter. He was left with a gift that went unnoticed and memories of loved ones; ghosts of failures and disappointments haunted him. This book was suspense filled and it unpacked a lot of lessons in a well crafted package.

Themes such as love, loneliness, failure, expectations we place on ourselves and the expectations others have for us was some of the topics that was explored. After reading this work of art it left me inspired.

I provided a link below for anyone interested in reading this book. It is available for purchase at Amazon. My opinion of this book is my own original and honest review, I was not paid by a publisher to give favorable reviews.

Review: The Highlander’s Bargain (A Novel of Loch Moigh)

midwife

The Highlanders Bargain is the 2nd book in the novels of Loch Moigh series by Barbara Longley. Before reading this post I urge you to read the post before True to the Highlander. Even though this book can be read as a standalone, I strongly recommend you read the first book to get intimately acquainted with all the characters.

The Highlanders Bargain picks up where True to the Highlander left off. Readers get an intimate glimpse into the life of past characters; Malcolm of clan MacKintosh with his lovely wife True of clan MacKintosh has settled into their life nicely.

Robley of clan MacKintosh is Malcolm’s adventurous younger cousin who after learning of Lady True’s secret decides to embark on a journey to the future to find a bride. What he gets in return is more than he could manage. Erin Durie is a surgical nurse and a few classes away from being a midwife, when a mysterious man falls out of thin air into her arms, at first she is scared but then relieved. Could this man be the answer to her new-found problems? Putting aside her skepticism Erin helps Robley and they go on a journey of true love, understanding and learning to trust. Rob helps Erin move past her trust issues that stemmed from her mother’s past mistakes. Together they showed us the true meaning of responsibility and love really does conquer all.

I enjoyed this book from start to finish. Ms Longley gave her readers a vivid and refreshing description of  fifteenth century Scotland. The novel moved at a smooth pace and  there was never a dull moment. The character development in this book was well done. Ms. Longley eloquently gave  readers a bird’s eye view of life in Loch Moigh and life in the twenty-first century without taking away from the story. Her knowledge of the customs in fifteenth century Scotland added great value. After reading the second book in the Loch Moigh series I felt as if I adopted a second language with all the Gaelic words I picked up.

If you’re on vacation and you want to lose yourself in a good book the Highlanders Bargain is the perfect book to pick up. Below I have included links to help you obtain a copy. This review is an honest review. I am not writing on behalf of any publication and I was not paid to write this.
