Carissa Elliot is on vacation in Miami mourning the loss of her mother in the club with her best friends and the only family she has. There she meets a smooth and handsome man who is hard to resist. After a near death experience, Carissa learns the dangerous man she’s been running away from is responsible for her father’s death and her mother’s demise. To protect her loved ones she enters a life of organized crime to exact her revenge on the man who’s responsible. Alex Mc Clean is the head of his family’s criminal syndicate, he can’t get the sexy blonde from Miami out of his head. When he discovers the woman he’s can’t get out of his system is holding the key to take down the man responsible for his brother’s death he sets out to find her. What he discovers is a strong and sexy crime boss who is not willing to give her trust or her heart. Can  Alex keep his head in the game long enough to finally get answers he needs or will the sexy blonde he met in Miami get under his skin? Secrets, lies, and betrayal are a few things that stand in the way of this modern day Bonnie and Clyde.

Boss is the first book in The Trinity series, it is a romantic suspense with a happily for now ending. There are no cliffhangers in this first installation of the series by J.L Lora.  Boss is a multi-dimensional book with complex characters each with their own demons and motivation. The story is initially centered around Clarissa and Alex but as the story progresses one gets glimpses into the lives of the people who love and protect them.

The setting of each place was immaculately constructed to transport the reader to the place abandoning their reality to the world that was created. Boss is a well-developed at the edge of your seat romantic thriller. The only growth area in this book is the suspense should have been held a little longer. The dialogue was strong and kept the reader informed without being confusing, J.L Lora took a complex plot with multi-layered characters and delivered each scene with ease. Boss was a great read and I look forward to reading more from this author.

J. L. Lora was born in Dominican Republic and came to the United States just at the age of 13. Her goal in life was always to be a writer. As a child, she told stories to her family and friends and wrote fiction about historic figures. Today, her stories explore the dark side of good characters, people living in the gray areas of life and how they cope with the cards life has dealt them. She loves strong heroines and their equally powerful love interests. She currently lives in Maryland while pursuing her dream of writing compelling, sexy, can’t-put-down stories about empowered, badass alpha heroines and take-your-breath-away alpha heroes.
