The light in the sound is a beautifully written laugh out loud, honest story of a woman named Rachel Richardson who suffers from personal traumas and is trying to find love in a world where sex and drugs are easier to get than true love. I am a hopeless romantic always searching for a good love story and what I found here after reading this book is a true gem. The light in the sound by Vanessa Gonzales is not a love story but a story about life. I found a hero in Rachel and despite her jaded past she moved about life unapologetically. The setting is Seattle, Washington; the description of the surroundings and the climate was so delicately and beautifully applied making the story credible. As a reader when I take a writer’s hand and they lead me into their world, I like to become engrossed in the story in a personal way staying at each character’s most vulnerable time and leaving at the end. In every good story there is a change in the main character and I sense Rachel has finally found peace within herself or found a sense of peace in the chaos of her life.
The characters were colorful, vibrant and sometimes weird but they reeked of normalcy. There are far too many books with characters that can’t appeal to normal people, whose life is imperfect but who have no choice but to use the cards they are dealt. Each character was expertly woven into the story showing Mrs. Gonzales commitment to quality in the craft of writing. The only downside of the book was I needed more, I fell in love with Rachel and I wanted her to succeed and find happiness. I enjoyed this book so much that I am giving 4 lucky readers the opportunity to read this wonderful story. The book is first come first served, kindle edition.
